Victim Recuperating After Being Attacked With Pipe

A local man is recuperating from serious injuries after having been attacked by a pipe-wielding acquaintance Saturday afternoon.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that when deputies arrived to investigate an assault at the Adkins Lane home around 4:30, they found the victim lying on the front yard. They report he was being attended to by his wife. His face and clothing were covered in blood and he was semi-conscious. He was able to tell them that he had been attacked by a man inside the house.

Deputies report that when they entered the home the suspect, fifty-one year old Randall Lee Price of 19 Ridge Lane, was sitting in a chair with a pipe lying beside him. He told them that the victim had walked over from his house, but that he had refused to leave several times when the resident asked him to do so.

Price told deputies that the victim, “Acted like he wanted to get in my face, so I hit him in the head with a pipe and he went out the door.” He claimed, “I was just defending myself because he wouldn’t leave.”

Price said that he had first struck the victim while he was sitting on a loveseat adjacent to the door, “But I didn’t get him good, so I hit him two more times when he stood up and was trying to get out the front door.”

The victim was transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital, then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He received numerous stitches to the back of his head and was treated for a broken nose and fractured collar bone. He has since been released to recuperate at home.

Price was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of aggravated assault. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 5, 2013.
